I’m about to head to Salt Lake City to perform for tonight’s First Night Celebration.  My band is the Mana Poly All-Stars. Check out the music.  You’ll enjoy it.

As I look back at the 2008 year it was a year never to be forgotten.  I learned so much about money, life, spirituality and the Lord himself.   I am grateful that I experienced the trials and challenges in my life.  I would go through them again if I had to.

This is a bunch of crap.

IF YOU ARE TRYING TO SELL YOUR PRODUCT-YOU WILL FAIL!

If you are trying to sell your comp plan-YOU WILL FAIL.

If you are trying to prove WHY YOUR PRODUCT/COMP PLAN/TOOLS/ETC. is better. . . . that’s right.  YOU WILL FAIL!

Why do I say you’ll fail?

Because PEOPLE DO NOT JOIN PRODUCTS, BUSINESS OR COMPANIES.

PEOPLE JOIN PEOPLE who they view as an expert or leader who has a system that works.  Read that sentence again.

Do you remember when you were young and you were asked by  ”What do you want to be when you grow up?” We answered enthusiastically “A doctor, a firefighter, a pilot, an NFL Superstar etc.”

Why is it if you ask grown ups what they want to be they usually respond with “I don’t know” or “What does it matter?”  What happened between the time when we were dreaming big as a young child and becoming an adult?

“If we fail to plan, we plan to fail.”  No one wakes up when they are young and says in the morning “I want to fail, I want to be miserable and I don’t want any part of success.”  Of course no one says these words.  So how to people end up living a mediocre life?  Why do so many people stay unsatisfied with the direction and purpose of their life?

Me: Bro aren’t you tired of doing what you are doing?  Working the same job over and over again and getting the same results that you are sick of already?

John:  Of course I am Setema.  I seriously want a change in my life, my career, standard of living and everything else.  I’m tired of my job.  I’m tired of having to worry about how I’m going to pay the mortgage if the engine breaks one more time.  I’m sick of my lifestyle and being stressed out about money.

Me:  John, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again hoping to get completely different results.  I actually call it stupidity.  Where were you a year ago?  How much were you making?  Were you healthy and happy?  It’s now a year later.  Are you better off?  With taxation and inflation, you either stay ahead or you get left behind.

John: I know and I am so embarrassed when people ask my wife “What does your husband do for a living?” Setema, I’m just scared of change, scared of the unknown.  I don’t know how to do what you do.  I don’t know how to start a business or make more money in my job.  I am limited in what I can make.  

Me: John, when you trade hours for dollars there is only one way to make more money.  It is called WORK HARDER and LONGER.  Work more hours and work more jobs.  But do you really want to do that?  John, what do you really want in life?  If you had 10 million dollars what would you do every day?  What are your goals, dreams and passions?

John:  Well, I’ve really never thought about it till you asked me.  i guess I never thought it was possible.  I want to be happy.  I want more money to be able to buy my wife a new car etc.  I want to travel.  I want to be a graphic designer and own my own business.  I want more time with my family.  I want to coach my son’s litle league team and support my wife in her dreams.   I’m sick of trading hours for dollars and barely making it. 

Me: First of all do you even BELEIVE that you can live a life that offers everything you want?  

John: I’m not sure.

Me:  Lack of belief is a major problem.

Me:  Next question, doing what you are doing now, how long will it take you to accomplish your goals?  

John:  30 to 40 years maybe. Ok, probably never if I keep doing what I am doing. 

Me:  Bro, its obvious that you need to CHANGE what you are doing.  Would you agree?

John:  Yes, but how do I change?  What do I do?  I don’t even know where to start!

Are you a Mastermind?

After retiring in 2002 from the NFL I was in financial disaster ready to file a bankruptcy.  I had a college degree, a Super Bowl Ring from the New England Patriots and now I was broke living at home needing to borrow money from my mom to make car payments.  I had serious credit card debt, no income, no direction and no real purpose.  What was my problem?

It’s not like I hadn’t experienced success before.  In High School I lettered in three sports and served as Student Body President.  I earned an athletic scholarship to BYU.  I was an All-Conference player and led the team and conference in sacks as team captain.  I graduated from BYU and made it to the NFL and won a Super Bowl.  Why was I struggling now when I had so much education and experience behind me?  That sums up November 2002 through December 2003.

Fast forward to December 2004-I hit my goal I set in January of that year, $100k.  Fast forward to 2005-I doubled what I made in 2004 by June 2005 and doubled it again by December 2005.  Fast forward to December 2006-I’m driving my dream cars, building a couple successful businesses and have a clear cut purpose for where I am heading in life.

What changed?  Obviously NOT the amount of money I made because I made money in the NFL and was still broke afterwards.  Answer=I increased my Human Life Value.  How did I increase my H.L.V.? I studied from the Masterminds of financial success and goal setting success like Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy and Napolean Hill who coined the phrase Mastermind.  I had an intense desire to become a Mastermind and make my future bigger than my past.  I studied every self help and personal growth book.  I hired mentors to help me build my businesses.  I attended seminars and joined mastermind groups.  Above all, I believed in the possibility of living the abundant life.  I sought to become a master of my mind.

Want to know The formula for making a lot of money?

Plain and simple, if you want to prosper financially, you have to figure out how to get people to want to give you money.  The reason they want to give you money is because they value what you have more than the money they have.  Exchange takes place and both parties become wealthy.

Everything we have today is a result of some Producer creating value. The car we drive, cell phone we use, clothes we wear are all examples of value.  The computer you are reading this on is value created that you paid x amount of dollars for and the creator of the computer has your money in his account.  In fact all the money we make comes from someone else’s bank account.  Bottom line-create value and dollars WILL follow.

What does it mean to create value and how do you create value?  First and foremost increase your Human Life Value. H.L.V. is a combination of your knowledge, experience, education, creativity, spirituality and skills.  As you increase your H.L.V. or some call it Human Capital, your ability to earn money will increase.  This is a fact.  When you learn more, you earn more.  In 2002 I was living at home with my mom.  

What's the percentage of guys that make the NFL let alone win a Super Bowl Ring?

I had a college degree, a Super Bowl Ring and I was flat broke.  My H.L.V. was not up to par. Fast forward a few years and I was making six figures a year, sometimes in one month, driving my dream cars, living in a beautiful home and money was NOT an issue. How did this happen in such a short period of time?  Did I work more hours?  Did I hit the jackpot?  Did I get lucky? No, no and depends how you define luck.  Bottom line-I increased my H.L.V.  I repeat, I INCREASED MY HUMAN LIFE VALUE.
